Savannah Scott is set to take center stage in the Boulder Opera Company’s dinner opera production of Suor Angelica by Puccini. A recent CU graduate student, Scott holds an M.M. in Vocal Performance. She has starred in various opera productions and even debuted the title role in Suor Angelica with La Musica Lirica in Novafeltria, Italy, in the summer of 2022. “No matter the role, I always try to find new layers and new depths in the character I’m playing each time I return to it during rehearsal and performance,” Scott explained.
Suor Angelica is a complex female heroine. As an actress, the intricacies of a character can be a challenge, but Scott had no issues addressing the challenge. “One of the challenges is to find subtle yet effective ways to let the audience glimpse into that world before it shatters open.”
Suor Angelica by Puccini is widely received as an emotionally charged opera. Deep human emotions are carried throughout the music. The opera even managed to make our leading lady emotional. “It’s basically an exercise in futility to keep me from crying from the moment Prinicpessa’s carriage is spotted through the end of the opera. That particular moment, however, is wrought with seven years of hopes and fears. I feel all of it, and it’s nearly impossible for me not to tremble and begin to cry right there with Angelica.
